Top Comic Book Movies BEFORE 2000

My brother brought home a Batman comic when the 1989 movie was released, and from that point on I have had a fascination with all things Superheroes. I always liked them as a kid, but it was that day when John brought the comic home that my pseudo obsession began.

I collected comic books for many years. Spiderman, X-men, JLA, Batman.....the list goes on and on. Then one day, like many hobbies for a young man, I kinda just stopped. But my love for the Superhero continued. That's why I am psyched every time I hear about a new comic based movie release.

There have been some awesome ones in the past few years. X-men 1 & 2, Spiderman 1 & 2, Sin City and Batman Begins are some examples. There have also been some steaming piles released too. ( Think Hulk and Fantastic Four). But this recent blitz of comic to movie enterprises is nothing new.

The good folks over at Retrojunk.com have posted an article where they take a look at the best comic book movies pre-year 2000.

1. Superman

2. Superman II

3. Batman

4. The Crow

5. The Mask

6. Blade

7. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

8. Dick Tracy

9. The Shadow

10. Mystery Men

I'd put Batman at number one, and would drop The Shadow and Mystery Men from the list. The last two movies sucked! I'd rather watch Batman and Robin than The Shadow. Bring on the Bat-nipple suits....

OK....let's go with Plan B!

R.I.P Myron Cope

Yesterday was a sad day for Steelers Fans worldwide. Famed color commentator Myron Cope passed away after a long struggle with many ailments including respiratory issues. Cope was the man behind the Terrible Towel, and was the first one to widely use the term "Immaculate Reception", in reference to Franco Harris' legendary catch.

Fans who knew him loved him. Outsiders probably could not understand a word he said and thus could not "get" his appeal. But folks in Pittsburgh knew him as a staple. A steel town institution. One who will surely be missed.

One last "Double Yoi" for a legend!

Feeling Left Out

Pwnage = Relief????

When I get sniped from across the map on High Ground in a Team Slayer match on Halo 3, I usually get angry. I swear. I throw my controller. I basically have a sissy temper tantrum. Then I calm down, get smoked again, and repeat the process. But I never once have felt a sense of relief. You will never hear me say, “Thank god that's over!” after I get pummeled by someone far superior than I. According to a recent study however, the emotional response to being killed in an FPS or other action game might just induce the feeling of relief, even though you may not exactly realize that is what is going on. There is an article on Arstechnica.com that tells of a study using Finnish students. The study measured the emotional responses of the group when they played James Bond 007: Nightfire, and Super Monkey Ball 2. After comparing the two, they theorized that a gamer experiences a sense of relief when they are killed, because it eliminates the tension or stress of facing their next opponent.A very wordy, yet interesting read. Check the article out here!
